Early Intervention (0-5)

Early identification and intervention is extremely important in treating developmental challenges or delays during a child’s critical stages of growth. 

Treating communication and language difficulties early on can prevent potential problems with behaviour, learning, reading, and social interactions. Research on brain development reminds us that earlier is better when teaching young children. Difficulties at this stage might include:

  • Language Delay 

  • Developmental Delay 

  • Feeding difficulties

  • Speech-Sound Delay

School Age (5-18)

Sometimes, difficulties with language don’t appear until later on or when children start school. 

If you child is experiencing difficulties with the following, a Speech-Language Assessment may be beneficial: 

  • Difficulty following multistep instructions

  • Difficulty writing grammatical utterances

  • Difficulty with reading, writing, spelling, or math

  • Unorganized stories with few details

  • Difficulty understanding complex written material

  • Difficulty taking notes or understanding spoken lectures

  • Speech - sound errors

Common diagnoses 0-18 may include: 

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Hearing Impairment

  • Developmental Delay

  • Cleft Lip or Cleft Palate

  • Genetic disorders (i.e. Down Syndrome)

  • Brain Injury/Concussion

  • Articulation Disorder 

  • Apraxia of Speech

  • Fluency (stuttering) 

  • Receptive Language Disorder (understanding)

  • Expressive Language Disorder (use)

  • Voice disorders 

  • Specific Language Impairment

  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

  • Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) 

  • Feeding/Swallowing (Dysphagia)
